EMT Exams in Wyoming

EMTs are Emergency Medical Technicians, who are proficient enough in rescuing patients till the time they are admitted to hospitals by providing them first aid during the alarming situations, like traumas, injuries, accidents, and other emergency situations. An aspirant, who desires to become a qualified EMT, is supposed to undergo program and clear all the exams. EMT exams in Wyoming are conducted by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). This authority issues the national certification and licensure to the qualified candidates.

Components of the EMT Exams


Cognitive Exams

It is the computer adaptive test (CAT) where a candidate is allotted 2 hours to demonstrate his/her dexterity in various areas of emergency skills, such as airways, respiration, ventilation, cardiology, gynecology, medical obstetrics, and other EMS operations. There are also a few special exceptions and considerations that fall under the category of cognitive exams, such as geriatrics, abuse and assault, treating physically challenged people, neonatology, etc.

Psychomotor Exams

The psychomotor exam conducted by the NREMT is a practical exam that tests the student’s skills and knowledge in several areas of emergency care. The topics include bleeding control, traction splinting, assessment/management of both-medical patient and trauma patient, immobilization of spinal bone, long bone fracture immobilization, bag-valve management of an apneic patient, oxygen administration to both unconscious and breathing patients.

Registration and Scheduling for the Exams

As soon as an aspirant completes his/her program program, he/she can notify the authorities to take up the test. Upon finding him/her eligible to take up the examinations, authorities will send him/her an eligibility postcard informing about the methods to register and schedule the EMT exams in Wyoming.

Fax Registration and Scheduling

This mode of registration requires you to fill in the details, such as credit card number and its expiration date at the time of filling the form. All the candidates are advised to check the registration form thoroughly to make sure that you haven’t entered any incorrect information in the form, else your form will be sent back to you for corrections and it will consume more of your time to complete the registration process.

Internet Registration and Scheduling

Amongst all the modes of registration for the EMT exams in Wyoming, the internet registration is the fastest mode to register yourself and schedule your examination. In order to register via this method, you are required to have a valid Mater/Visa card and also need to enter the credit card number and its expiration date. As you fill in the details and submit your registration form, you will be directed to a page to choose your desired dates and location(s) to take the exam.

Telephone Registration and Scheduling

After the internet, the telephone is the fastest mode to register for the EMT examinations. In this mode of registration as well, you need to have a valid Master/Visa card and tell its number and expiration date upon asking. Candidates registering via this method also have the opportunity to register during the non-business hours through the interactive voice response system (IVR).

Cancelling and Rescheduling the Exam


If a candidate doesn’t want to take up the exam on the scheduled date, he/she can cancel it by informing at least two days prior to the scheduled test date. However, if an aspirant fails to inform on time, his/her registration is likely to get cancelled and fee will also be forfeited.

The aspirants may also get their exams rescheduled, but not on the same day due to scoring and reporting procedures. He/she may get it rescheduled either on the next day or the day after; depending upon the availability of seats in his/her preferred location. For example, if the scheduled date of examination is Wednesday, and the candidate wants to reschedule it, he/she may get it rescheduled either on Thursday or Friday.

Late Cancellation or Missed Appointment

There are certain provisions to get your exam cancelled and rescheduled. If a student fails to inform and move as per the provisions, his appointment will be considered as ‘late appointment’ and in such a case, his/her registration is likely to get cancelled and fee will also not be refunded.

Besides, in the following cases as well, the appointment is likely to get cancelled:

  • If the candidate does not turn for the exam and not even inform the same.
  • If the aspirant arrives late after the test has already started.
  • If the student arrives on time, but fails to present the valid proofs of his/her identity.

Reporting to the Examination Site

It is expected from all the aspirants of the EMT test to report at least 30 minutes before the scheduled examination time in order to complete the sign-in process and also get familiarized with the test center and the exam procedures.

At the time of reporting at the exam center, the candidate is required to show at least two forms of identity proofs in order to complete his/her sign-up process. Out of the two identity proofs, one has to be a government approved and issued identity card, such as state ID, passport, driving license, etc. All these forms must have your photograph along with signature over it in order to check and verify the authenticity of your identity.

Before you begin to write your test, you are required to sign a bond letter in the exam hall stating that you will not share any kind of confidential information with any other candidate during the exam timing.

Candidates are also prohibited to bring certain valuables and belongings, such as laptops, cell phones, pods, iPads, handbags, backpacks, watches, alarms, notes, reference materials, dictionaries, ballpoint pens or colored pens, etc.

Note- No aspirant is supposed to bring employment or student ID card as a part of valid ID proof as these will be considered as invalid by the authorities and inspection committee.

Exam Results

All the aspirants appearing for the Emergency Medical Technician exams are required to score a minimum of 80 percent marks in order to pass the examination successfully and obtain a national certificate and licensure. Besides, grades and scores of all the aspirants will be reviewed thoroughly to make sure that the results published on the website are authentic and genuine.

Results of all the students will be published on a password generated website meaning that only applicant can view his/her result and no one else can. In order to view results, candidates can follow the below given steps:

  • Log into the certification website and click on the option ‘grade report’.
  • Next, click on the option ‘profession’ from the various options that follow.
  • A screen will appear asking you to enter your DOB and social security number.
  • Your result will be displayed on your screen revealing the status of your result.

All the candidates are given 6 attempts to clear the EMT exams. After three unsuccessful attempts, the candidate is required to present an official document stating the completion of 24 hours of remedial program. After that, he/she is given 3 additional attempts to take up the examinations and clear them. If the student remains unsuccessful in clearing the test even after 6 attempts, he/she has to undergo the program all over again.

Tips for Preparing for the EMT Exams

  • Keep nervousness and anxiety pangs at bay and prepare yourself for the exam with poise and confidence.
  • Do not skip any information or topic and cover each and every topic much in detail to nail the test.
  • Airways and respiration are amongst topics, which are most likely to be asked by the NREMT. Pay more heed to these topics and study them thoroughly as it will enhance your chances of clearing the exams.
  • Do not take breaks voluntarily as the breaks taken by you during the test time are likely to lessen the official exam timings.
  • Jot down notes of all the information and topics that you get to grab, and also look for the present signs of criticality in questions before solving them.
  • Do not answer irrelevant to the questions, and answer to only what is being asked of you.
