Process of EMT Certification

Renewal of EMT Certification

The EMT certificate gets expired 2 years after the date of issue. To carry out your work smoothly, you must renew it on time. The state has framed some rules for re-certification. All the candidates, who wish to get re-certified, are supposed to follow these rules and complete the following requirements:

  • The candidate must be currently engaged in providing services to a rescue center, EMS agency, or a fire-fighting center.
  • Deposit the duly filled re-certification application form before 30th September of the year, in which, the license gets expired.
  • Every candidate has to complete continuing hours of education at the appropriate EMT level, as specified below:

    • Medical Responder: For getting the certificate renewed at this level, a candidate has to complete a 12-hour refresher course. Along with this, non-refundable payment of $10 for processing the request is essential.
    • EMT- Basic: The candidates have to finish 24 hours of EMT refresher course, approved by the state or Continuing Education Co-ordinating Board. Additional 48 hours of continuing education are also a must. The applicants also need to pay $15 (processing fee) at the time of submission of the documents. Remember, the processing fee is non-refundable.
    • EMT- Intermediate: The candidates have to undergo 36 hours of EMT-I refresher course and 36 hours of continuing education. In addition to this, a non-refundable sum of $15.00 is also required to be paid as the processing charges.
    • EMT- Paramedic: Re-certification at this stage requires a student to complete 48 hours of refresher course from a CECBEMS or a state-approved center, and 24 hours of continuing education. The processing charges are $20, which are non- refundable.
