EMT Program in Delaware

EMT program in Delaware teaches basic life-saving skills to the students that they need while handling big or small emergencies. After finishing the program, students become eligible to be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in their own state or in the other state, as well. Students can now provide necessary pre-hospital care to the patients, whatever may be the situation is. Generally, there are three levels of EMT program in Delaware- EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic.

Eligibility Criteria

Given below are the general requirements for students to take up EMT program in Delaware:

The state has decided 18 years as the minimum age to enrol for the program.
A valid driving license is also imperative.
He/she must hold a CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification, provided by any of the public health providers.
The candidate must have passed a GED or a tenth-grade level. Some schools may also ask for the scores of COMPASS or ACCUPLACER tests, which checks their English and mathematical skills.
It is compulsory to provide proof of immunizations of various ailments, such as measles, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus, chickenpox, rubella, hepatitis B, and pertussis.
He/she also needs to provide a negative report of tuberculosis test, chest X-ray, as well as a flu shot, within the last one year.
A drug test, as well as a check on the criminal background, is a must.

Coursework

The coursework may differ according to the levels of EMT program in Delaware.

EMT-Basic: This is the entry level of EMT program, which includes topics, like:

EMT-Paramedic: This is the topmost level of EMT program, which covers subjects, like:

Advanced trauma care
Advanced air and breathing management
High level cardiac analysis and blood chemistry
Advanced cardiac procedures
Pharmacology

Duration and Fees

The average in-state fee of EMT program in Delaware is approximately $7,316. If you are an out-state student, you might have to spend up to $10,694 for a program. However, the students can also obtain financial aid.

The duration of EMT program at the basic level is 140 hours, and it will take around 6 months to 2 years to complete it at the paramedic level.
