EMT Program in Missouri

Introduction

EMT program in Missouri prepares students for a bright future. An emergency medical technician is responsible to look after the issues, related to health, welfare, and safety of the people by providing emergency medical services, like trauma centres, emergency medical response agencies, ambulance services, etc. There are different program programs conducted throughout Missouri.

EMS (Emergency Medical Services) of Missouri ensures that EMT is possessing required skills and knowledge to perform their duties. To become a licensed EMT or authorized EMT in the state of Missouri, a person must qualify state accredited EMT program course. For this, EMT program should be availed. EMT program in Missouri helps in polishing the skills and knowledge of candidates to pass the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician) exams.

Eligibility Criteria


To enrol in the program programs, following necessary requirements should be fulfilled by the candidate:

  • The candidate enrolling for EMT must be of 18 years or above in age.
  • The aspirant must have a valid driving license.
  • The candidate must possess CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certification.
  • The candidate must be able to read at a 10th grade or higher level.
  • At many times, the candidates may have to submit their placement results (from exams, like ACCUPLACER or COMPASS or ASSET, which test skills in reading, math, and English).
  • The candidates are also required to show proof of various vaccinations, mentioned below:
    • Mumps
    • Measles
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series
    • Rubella vaccination
  • Apart from this, a candidate should undergo Tdap vaccination to protect himself/herself against Diphtheria, Chicken Pox, Tetanus, and Pertussis.
  • Candidate needs submit a negative tuberculosis skin PPD test, a flu-shot, and a negative chest X-ray.
  • The candidate must go through a drug test and submit the reports of a criminal background check.

Coursework

To become a licensed EMT, candidates need to undertake various program programs at different levels. These program programs assist candidates to become an eligible candidate for NREMT exam. The courses are as follows:

EMT- Basic Program Program

EMT-basic program is the lowest level of course to pursue a career in EMS. It is a 6-hours class, which is completed in 16 weeks. In this program, students learn to manage cardiac, respiratory, and trauma emergencies. Students are required to complete this basic program in order to qualify for National Registry Practical and Written exams. When a student passes the examinations, he becomes eligible to apply for a license in the state of Missouri by the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services as well as the National Registry of EMTs.


EMT-Intermediate Program Program

The EMT-intermediate program includes classroom lectures, completion of clinical and field internships, and skills lab. After pursuing the intermediate program, students must qualify National Registry Practical and Written Exams. In this program, students learn about sophisticated life support skills, including intravenous procedures, managing airway through advanced techniques, and medication dispensing. Students are also required to complete a clinical program along with lectures. After passing the required examinations, students are eligible to apply for a license in the state of Missouri by the National Registry of EMTs and by the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.

EMT- Paramedic Program Program

The EMT-paramedic program offers classroom lectures and ensures completion of clinical and field internships. In this program, students learn about advanced treatment methods and procedures, paramedicine, airway ventilation, and special cases. The curriculum also introduces general education courses. Students, who complete this degree program, become qualified for the paramedic certifying exam through the National Registry of EMTs.  After passing examinations, the aspirant can obtain a license through the Missouri Department of the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.

Duration of Program

Every level of program gets completed in the different time period. In many cases, to pursue a subsequent level of program, a candidate must qualify the preceding level of EMT program.

First Responder: To become an EMT-Basic or first responder, the program and coursework generally require three weeks. Students, who have enrolled for part-time, can complete program programs in 8-11 weeks.

EMT- Intermediate: To become an EMT-Intermediate (1985 or 1999), the candidate requires 30-350 hours of program.

Paramedic: It is the most advanced level of a program, which requires a program of minimum 6 months to maximum 2 years. After completion of the program duration, students can acquire associate’s degree in EMS (Emergency Medical Services).

Fee Structure


To enrol in any state-approved program centre, one needs to check out the fee structure of the courses being offered. The undergraduate program fees in-state ranges from $2,664 to $5,271.
