EMT Program in District of Columbia

Students who apply for EMT program in District of Columbia are mainly responsible for giving emergency medical care to the patients and providing life-support services during transportation. In order to become a basic Emergency Medical Technician, a student needs to learn the basic skills related to the medical field. There are five different levels of EMT program in District of Columbia- EMR, EMT, EMT-I, AEMT, and Paramedic.

Eligibility Criteria

There are certain requirements, which a student must fulfil in order to apply for EMT program in District of Columbia:

18 years is the minimum age-limit for the student.
The student must have passed a GED or high school exam. Some colleges also ask for the scores of COMPASS or ACCUPLACER tests, which check the student’s mathematical and English skills.
The student should hold a current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certificate, which should be maintained throughout the program.
The student must also hold a valid driving license.
The proofs of various vaccinations are also needed by the student, like measles, mumps, chickenpox, rubella, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and hepatitis B.
A negative report of tuberculosis, chest X-ray, and a flu shot is also needed by the aspirant. It has been done within the last 1 year.
The student needs to undertake a check on criminal background, as well as a drug test.

The fee structure of EMT program in the District of Columbia is between $1,000 and $10,000. The cost of program may vary according to the college you are applying for. The duration of EMT-Basic program is around 130 hours, while a paramedic level of the program will complete in about 9 months.
